Important notes
Perform remote activity for a foreign employer; work for a Brazilian employer is outside RN 45, whether or not there is a formal employment contract.
Evidence of remote-work ability and foreign employment/service relationship, plus foreign-source subsistence of US$1,500/month or at least US$18,000 in bank funds.
For a consular visa: valid travel document, Brazil-valid health insurance, application, fee, travel and criminal-record evidence required by the post.
For an in-country residence application: follow Article 4's separate identity/parentage, fee and five-year background-record/declaration requirements.
RN 45 was signed on 9 September 2021 and published on 24 January 2022; the financial test is not a newly verified 2026 increase. Initial residence is up to one year and can be renewed for an equal period.
Article 2 permits the defined foreign remote activity as a visitor subject to nationality-based visa and stay rules. This is not unlimited visitor residence or permission for Brazilian employment.
No new universal 90-day renewal grace period, six-month contract minimum or blanket 2026 fee change was verified. Follow the actual filing procedure and granted expiry.
