Full-time course admission
Typical timeline / duration: The approved period stated on the Student's Pass, tied to the course and continued eligibility; renewal or a new application may be needed. Processing time is not pass validity.
Important notes
Obtain approved full-time admission. Part-time, evening and weekend courses do not qualify. Choose the correct ICA institution category rather than applying a university checklist to every school.
For a Private Education Institution (PEI), verify EduTrust certification. A Student's Pass is not issued for a non-EduTrust PEI; limited existing-pass exemptions for non-religious study do not turn that school into a Student's Pass sponsor.
For the published higher-learning/PEI workflow, prepare the school Registration Acknowledgement Letter, passport, applicable birth certificate, photo, education/employment and financial-support details, family information and Singapore contact/address details.
Submit required originals and official English translations. ICA accepts specified embassy/notarial translations or appropriately attested private translations; a privately typed translation alone is not sufficient.
The higher-learning and PEI pages require new online applications two to three months before the course starts. Apply before travel: a pending application does not extend a short visit. After approval, complete medical and issuance requirements where applicable.
As checked 14 October 2026, the higher-learning and PEI pages quote a non-refundable SGD 45 application-processing fee. Issuance/visa charges and timing are separate; do not treat a quoted processing time as a guaranteed decision.
During term, work-pass exemption requires a Student's Pass and full-time enrolment at an institution on MOM's term-time list, plus either a maximum 16-hour week or a qualifying institution-run internship contributing to graduation.
Vacation work has its own institution list and requires age 14+. Exchange students cannot use these exemptions. Admission to a private school or possession of a Student's Pass alone does not create work rights.
After studies and Student's Pass expiry, paid employment requires the appropriate work pass. Other future immigration options have separate criteria; this is not an automatic settlement route.
A valid Dependant's Pass, Long-Term Visit Pass or Immigration Exemption Order can exempt specified full-time non-religious study. A short-course exemption has a 30-day/visit-validity limit and additional module/training restrictions.
PEI course/school changes require a new application at least four weeks before the new course begins; renewal applies to continuing the same course at the same PEI. Other education types and minors have their own ICA requirements.
Preparation checklist
Confirm the institution category, full-time course approval and PEI EduTrust status where relevant.
Obtain the school acknowledgement and gather identity, financial-support, education and family records.
Arrange accepted English translations and a compliant recent photo.
Submit the appropriate ICA application in the institution's filing window and pay the current fee.
Await approval before arranging entry and complete the stated medical/issuance formalities.
