Typical timeline / duration: Grant/category dependent. Under Portaria 68, event employment may reach 24 months; technical assistance up to one year, renewable for an equal period, subject to the event-end cap.
Important notes
Ordinary employment must match the applicable employment-residence category and a contract governed by Brazilian labour law.
For qualifying megaevent employment, the organiser/designated entity submits the fixed-term contract and event-link evidence under Portaria 68.
Technical assistance follows its separate evidence/petitioner provisions; it is not the same as ordinary local employment.
Complete the applicable residence-authorisation, consular visa and registration steps; salary/qualification documents depend on the actual category.
Portaria 68 was signed 15 September 2026. The Ministry-hosted text identifies publication on 17 September; Article 10 starts it on publication. The Sports Ministry news is dated 18 September.
The megaevent option requires a qualifying event and organising/designated entity; Article 6 also defines eligible technical-service petitioners. It is not a route for any employer or ordinary job seeker.
Employment cases use MigranteWeb with organiser-linked evidence and a fixed-term contract. Article 4's decision period is ten working days after a properly completed file, not a guaranteed visa or end-to-end processing time.
Technical assistance excludes exclusively administrative, financial or managerial activities. The ordinary end-date cap is six months after the event, subject to specific-law exceptions; residence approval does not replace the consular/registration steps.
Preparation checklist
Have the employer identify the ordinary work category or the qualifying megaevent basis.
For an event case, confirm the organiser/designated entity or Article 6 technical-service petitioner.
Obtain the contract and event-link evidence before the residence-authorisation filing.
Track the complete-file decision separately from the consular visa and Federal Police registration.
Check the granted duration, event-end cap and any required change notifications.
