Thailand BOI’s four-category LTR programme; you must qualify under Wealthy Global Citizen, Wealthy Pensioner, Work-from-Thailand Professional, or Highly Skilled Professional.

Important notes

• Apply through the Thailand BOI LTR system; choose one of four categories and submit category-specific evidence. Spouse and children under 20 may qualify as dependants, subject to the programme rules.
• Wealthy Global Citizen: at least USD 1 million in assets and at least USD 500,000 invested in Thailand in qualifying investments.
• Wealthy Pensioner: age 50+ with at least USD 80,000/year in passive or unearned income, or USD 40,000–80,000 plus USD 250,000 in qualifying Thai investment.
• Work-from-Thailand Professional: normally at least USD 80,000/year personal income for the previous two years, plus employment with a qualifying established overseas company; the USD 40,000–80,000 band requires additional qualification evidence.
• Highly Skilled Professional: work in a BOI-targeted industry or qualifying Thai institution/employer, with income, experience, qualification, and employment evidence assessed under the HSP criteria.
• Health cover normally requires at least USD 50,000 coverage, Thai social-security coverage, or an equivalent USD 100,000 deposit route, subject to the current BOI rules.
• LTR category determines work rights; wealthy/pensioner categories are not general employment routes.

• Confirm the financial evidence: Wealthy Pensioner requires USD 80,000/year income, or USD 40,000/year plus USD 250,000 investment in Thailand.
• Save your submitted files and track the next application or renewal date.

These are the four separate routes hidden under the single “LTR” name. The thresholds and qualifying evidence should be checked against the current Thailand BOI LTR site before applying.

How hard is LTR?

Difficulty: Hard / category-dependent. LTR is not one simple visa with one income threshold. It is selective because the applicant must fit a specific category and prove the financial, employment, asset, investment, insurance, and—where relevant—industry requirements. The Work-from-Thailand category is the closest match for a digital nomad, but it is aimed at employees of qualifying established overseas companies, not every freelancer or small-business owner.

Why are digital-nomad visas shown as similar?

The comparison is mainly relevant to the Work-from-Thailand Professional category, which allows remote work from Thailand for an overseas employer. It is not a good comparison for Wealthy Global Citizens or Wealthy Pensioners, who are wealth/passive-income categories, or for Highly Skilled Professionals working for a Thai employer. The LTR page now separates those distinctions above; the comparison cards are only a discovery aid, not a statement that every LTR applicant should choose a digital-nomad visa.

Common evidence

• Passport, application, photographs, and certified or official translations where required.
• Income and tax evidence for the relevant period.
• Employer/company documents for Work-from-Thailand or Highly Skilled applicants.
• Asset, investment, pension/passive-income, insurance, or deposit evidence depending on category.
• Evidence that the relevant qualification is maintained during the permission period; BOI may re-check eligibility before the later five-year period.

Why digital-nomad comparisons appear: LTR includes a Work-from-Thailand Professional category, so remote-work routes are relevant to that category only. The other LTR categories are wealth, pension, or Thai-employer professional routes.
