Typical timeline / duration: Usually two years, renewable subject to the issuing authority's conditions
Important notes
Obtain a formal UAE job offer and have the employer arrange the work permit and residence sponsorship steps.
Submit the passport, photographs, signed employment contract or offer, qualification evidence, and other documents requested by the employer or authority.
After entry or status change, complete the medical fitness test, security check, and Emirates ID application; some professions also require attested qualifications or a professional licence.
Work only for the approved employer and role; changing employers, cancellation, and renewal must follow the procedures of MOHRE, ICP, GDRFA, or the relevant emirate authority.
A standard UAE employment residence visa is generally valid for two years and renewable; the issuing authority and sponsor record the final permit period.
The work permit and residence visa are linked but separate steps: the employer normally obtains the work authorisation before completing residence and Emirates ID formalities.
After expiry or cancellation, the holder must leave, change status, or complete new-employer sponsorship within the applicable grace period.
