For applications from 1 September 2026 outside Quebec, first-year living funds are CAD 23,448 for one person, including the applicant. Tuition and transportation are additional. Funds must be available without relying on work in Canada; for longer programmes, also explain funding for later years.

Working rights depend on the permit and programme; admission to a DLI does not by itself guarantee a post-graduation work permit.
Preparation checklist
Confirm your institution, programme, admission letter and whether a PAL/TAL or Quebec CAQ is needed for your case.
Count all accompanying family members, including yourself, then use the funding table for your application date and province.
Prepare tuition and travel funding separately from living funds, with bank records, source-of-funds or sponsor evidence and a plan for later study years.
Check the visa-office instructions for China and foreign-exchange export evidence where applicable; assess work and post-graduation eligibility separately.
