Typical timeline / duration: National D visa up to 12 months; eligible holders may apply before expiry for the two-year digital-nomad residence permit.
Important notes
Remote employment, service contracts or your own business must be based outside Greece; fixed-term contracts must cover the intended visa period.
Monthly resources at least €3,500, plus 20% for a spouse/partner and 15% for each child; employment/service income is measured after required taxes.
Submit the work declaration, contracts/business evidence, passport and the insurance and other documents on the handling Greek mission's national-visa checklist.
Law 5275/2026 Article 13 repealed Code Article 12(7), the short-stay/visa-exempt digital-nomad filing exception. Article 69 sets commencement at publication: 6 February 2026, not 5 February.
This correction concerns new tourist/short-stay filings, not an assertion that every existing long-stay or residence holder must leave Greece; category changes have separate conditions.
The digital-nomad category permits defined foreign remote work, unlike ordinary financially independent residence; accompanying family members do not obtain local employment rights.
The financial-resources decision dates to 17 September 2024. No additional post-3-August-2026 nomad reform was established in this review.
Preparation checklist

Collect foreign company or client contracts and explain how your work can be performed remotely.
Calculate the household requirement and assemble net-income or bank evidence for the intended stay.
Arrange the required health insurance and complete the mission's passport and civil-document formalities.
Plan the first entry with the correct D visa, then prepare any residence application before that visa expires.
