The pact primarily changes external-border screening, Eurodac registration, asylum procedures, responsibility allocation, and return processes for people without a right to remain. It is a major structural reform to EU asylum and border management, but it does not create a single EU work visa or replace national study, skilled, family, or digital-nomad residence systems.
Core eligibility for regular visa applicants is largely unchanged, although external-border checks and data verification may become more consistent and temporarily slower during implementation. The direct effects are greater for asylum applicants, related family-reunification cases, and people with gaps or overstays.
For work, study, and digital-nomad moves, continue using the destination country's national rules. Keep passport, visa, residence card, and purpose-of-travel evidence consistent at entry, and avoid overstays or status gaps as cross-border registration and responsibility tracking become more integrated.
