Third-country nationals wishing to settle in Austria without gainful employment, including pensioners and financially independent people, may obtain a 'settlement permit – gainful employment excepted' if they meet statutory requirements.
2026 fixed monthly-income threshold: €2,616.78 for one person, €4,128.24 for a couple, plus €403.76 per child. Evidence can include pension, foreign-business profits, asset income, savings or company shares.
Submit proof of a legal right to adequate accommodation, all-risk Austrian health insurance, A1 German evidence and the quota application documents; this permit does not allow employment.
This permit is for financially independent people who will not take up gainful employment in Austria.
