Important notes
Be accepted into an eligible Finnish higher-education programme and apply for a residence permit if the studies last more than 90 days.
Show secure funds for living costs, currently at least €800 per month, in your own account or through an accepted scholarship or grant.
Provide a valid passport and comprehensive private health insurance that meets the coverage rules for the length and level of study.
Pay any required tuition fees or show an approved exemption, then complete the online Enter Finland application and identity verification.
The study permit is normally issued for the study period and can provide a continuous residence basis; students should check the current work-hour rules before relying on employment income.
After completing a Finnish degree, a separate permit can allow up to two years to look for work or start a business, with an unrestricted right to work while that permit is valid.
