Important notes
For higher education, provide the Ministry of Education acceptance for full-time study at an accredited or provisionally authorised institution and evidence of payment for at least one year of tuition, unless the relevant scholarship exemption applies.
For the visa, show maintenance at least at Romania's minimum gross monthly salary for the visa period, criminal-record evidence and travel medical cover of at least €30,000; minors need parental/guardian consent. The published long-stay visa fee is €300.
After entry, apply to the territorial IGI office at least 30 days before authorised stay expires. Residence evidence includes passport, initial acceptance, enrolment, accommodation, medical documents and support for at least six months at the applicable minimum gross salary.
A holder of study residence may work without a separate employment approval on a part-time employment contract for no more than six hours per day.
The six-hour work limit applies to study-residence holders on part-time employment contracts, not an unrestricted right to full-time work. Residence duration follows the applicable study category.
After graduation, the six-month option concerns completion/authentication of study documents; the separate nine-month option concerns job search, employment formalities or opening a business. Each requires the applicable application and evidence.
IGI states a 30-day residence decision period, extendable by 15 days for additional checks; document requests can pause it. This is not the complete admission-and-visa timetable.
