Important notes
Final admission to full-time, on-site higher education in Sweden; distance learning is not eligible for this permit.
Pay any required tuition fees before applying and show a valid passport, admission decision, and certified translations where needed.
Show financial maintenance of at least SEK 10,656 per month for applications made in 2026, with higher amounts for accompanying family.
Have comprehensive health insurance for studies shorter than one year and submit the application before travelling to Sweden, subject to limited exceptions.
The permit can normally cover one or two years depending on the institution and study period, and can be extended.
From 11 June 2026, students in bachelor’s or master’s studies generally may work up to 15 hours per week under the updated rules; recheck the current permit decision and exceptions.
