For applicants with qualifications, skills, and an employer.
Route overview
Employer offer + qualification fit
Typical timeline / duration: 3-8 months
Important notes
Have completed relevant vocational training, higher education, or demonstrate special qualifications built through substantial work experience.
Hold a concrete full-time job offer from one specific Norwegian employer, with the position requiring the applicant's skilled-worker qualifications.
Meet Norwegian pay and working-condition standards and provide the employer confirmation code or other employer evidence required for an application from abroad.
Submit passport, qualification, employment, and any regulated-profession authorisation documents, then complete the residence and biometrics process.
A university-level skilled-worker permit can normally be granted for up to three years at a time, and permanent residence may be possible after three years if all conditions are met.
The permit is tied to the approved type of position: ordinary remote work is not allowed unless it is part of the job covered by the permit, and a different type of role requires a new application.
