Important notes
Choose a recognised purpose for temporary residence, such as employment, self-employment, studies, property ownership, family, research, or another basis recognised under Serbian law.
Submit the temporary-residence application to the competent police authority or through the Foreign Nationals Portal, depending on the basis and applicant's situation.
Provide a valid passport or identity document, photographs, proof of address or landlord consent, health insurance, proof of subsistence, the purpose-specific evidence, and the prescribed fee.
Stay in Serbia in accordance with the approved purpose; temporary residence alone does not automatically authorise employment unless the permit or a single residence-and-work permit allows it.
Serbia's temporary residence system is purpose-based rather than a blanket residence permit for remote workers. The official page says a permit can be issued as temporary residence or, where employment conditions are met, as a single permit to reside and work.
The current framework can permit temporary residence for up to three years depending on the basis. Check the exact duration, D-visa requirement, and portal checklist for the selected purpose.
