Global Talent visa: endorsement or qualifying prize
Typical timeline / duration: Choose up to five years per application, with further extensions if eligible. Settlement normally needs three or five qualifying years, depending on the endorsement/prize basis.
Important notes
Select the correct field and endorsement pathway, then supply that body's evidence. Academia/research, digital technology and arts/culture have different criteria; there is no single universal portfolio checklist.
For the prize alternative, be the named recipient of the exact prize on the official list. An organisation's/group's prize or another award from the same institution does not automatically qualify.
If relying on endorsement, apply for the visa no more than three months after the letter, with endorsement still valid and the body still approved. Endorsement does not itself grant immigration permission.
Prepare passport/identity, applicable TB evidence, biometrics and the visa/health-surcharge payments through the appropriate outside-UK or in-country process. Entry clearance is needed before travelling under this route.
Current fees total £766 for the main applicant: £561 endorsement plus £205 visa, or £766 at the visa stage for the qualifying-prize route. The 8 October 2026 schedule leaves these fees unchanged; the health surcharge is additional.
Settlement's three-year basis covers the specified science/research endorsers, exceptional-talent Arts Council England/Tech Nation cases and listed-prize cases. Exceptional-promise Arts Council England/Tech Nation cases use five years. Continuous residence and related-field UK earnings still apply.
For settlement, the current speaking/listening English standard is B1 unless exempt. The Rules schedule B2 for applications on or after 26 March 2027; that future requirement is not yet in force on 14 October 2026. Knowledge of Life in the UK is a separate requirement.
The visa permits employment and self-employment without tying you to one employer, but professional-sport work is excluded. Extension requires UK earnings in the endorsed/prize-related field and continued validity of the endorsement where used.
